I support students from first grade to college with one-on-one personalized math tutoring on Zoom and in Asheville, NC.
My absolute favorite thing is seeing the spark of excitement and confidence on a student's face when something clicks and makes sense for the first time.
Imagine if your child started seeing math differently, making connections, and growing confident in their abilities.
It's absolutely possible.
Math doesn't have to be as scary as it seems!
If you're curious about tutoring, please reach out and we'll see if it's the right fit. I'd love to talk!
I live in Asheville with my husband Austin and 135 plants (and counting).
I'm into hiking & camping, reading, sewing, baking sourdough, collaging, birding, and learning new ways to understand math.

Do you find yourself or your student having a hard time with:
Understanding how things are connected
Knowing where to start or when to use what you've learned
Remembering procedures, rules, and formulas
Forgetting what you're doing in the middle of a problem
Little mistakes
Are you or your student intimidated by:
Fractions
Word Problems
Factoring
Graphing
Square Roots
Most of us can relate to at least some of these - you're not alone!
Math is tough for everyone, even the ones who enjoy it, like me.
I believe your student is just as tough as math, and we can figure out a way to connect the dots and make sense out of it.
I can help your student really understand what they are doing in class and why, and see how capable they are.
I will
work with them through problems
walk them through concepts
challenge them to keep going when they want to give up
cheer them on
try different ways of looking at a concept until we find the one that clicks for them
fill in the gaps they may have from previous years of math
My students learn to
ask themselves questions and look for clues (so they can solve problems when I'm not there)
squeeze the juice out of their mistakes
fight through problems
These practices are crucial to developing a growth mindset and over time build up confidence, skill, and grit. The benefits reach far beyond mathematics and the classroom!

Their final exam grades increased by an average of 24% (16 points) compared to their midterm exam grades.*
*This data is representative of four students' grades. I worked with two other students but do not have complete grade data for them.
"Marina tutored our daughter for almost 3 years of High school. We used her weekly, and she was an invaluable resource for our daughter, who needed the one on one help.
Marina was always a great communicator, both in scheduling with us, and with her assistance when tutoring. She's an incredibly kind, calming and encouraging teacher with a natural gift for helping to break down the complexities of math at a pace that makes sense to the student.
She's patient and takes the time to understand the challenges while encouraging the student to problem solve on their own to figure it out....but being there a guide to steer them back on the right track if they get off.
She provided our child with much needed confidence in studying and preparing for tests/quizzes, and was her biggest cheerleader as she improved and did well.
I would wholeheartedly recommend her for any child who needs some extra support."
